Gifford House, located on the Medford/Somerville Campus, was built in 1938 to serve as the President's residence. Constructed on almost the exact spot as the very first President's house, the Gifford House was first inhabited by President Leonard Carmichael. The 15 rooms underwent major renovations in 1993, when President John A. DiBiaggio and wife Nancy redesigned the house to recognize its importance as a "home" for the entire university.
