- How do I find an on-campus service?
- From the main tab ("Medford/Somerville Services"), choose the service(s) you're looking for in the list to the left. When you check the service(s), locations will appear both on the map (as indicated by an icon) and in a list of links to the right. Click on the icon or the link to show the location on the map, as well as links for further information (including hours and directions) and what other services are found at that location.
- Can I search by typing in a keyword, like "gym" or "coffee"?
- Sure. Type a keyword into the "Find a service" box on the left. A list of services matching your search term will appear on the right-hand side of the screen. Click on the result to bring up the location on the map.
- What are those little icons in the search results on the right hand side of the map?
- Clicking on the arrow icon
will show more information about the service, such as hours, directions and the website. Clicking on the building icon
will show more information about the location. - What do "map," "satellite" and "hybrid" mean?
- The default map setting is hybrid, showing street names and directions superimposed onto the satellite image of campus. For street outlines and names only, select map; for satellite only, select satellite.
- Why do certain buildings have certain colors?
- Campus buildings are distinguished by colors overlaid onto the map: purple is academic and administrative buildings, orange is residential buildings and teal is fraternity and sorority houses. You can remove these designations by clicking "Remove Buildings Overlay." Also, you can change the darkness of the overlay color by selecting a different opacity (40% is lightest, 100% is darkest).
- What do the different icons on the map mean?
- For a full explanation of the icons, see our icon guide.
- What about the buildings that don't have a color outline?
- Those are not Tufts University facilities. Campus Compass does not encourage knocking on our neighbors' doors asking to use their washer and dryer.
- What if I want to know what's in a certain building?
- The second tab on the map, which reads "Medford/Somerville Buildings," allows you to search by building rather than service. For instance, you can find and list all the services available at the Campus Center or Dowling Hall. The results will be featured both on the map and on the list to the right. You can also search by building keyword, such as "gym," and a list of links will show up on the left. Clicking on a link will display the building's location on the map and additional information on the right.
